New Innovative Seeding particles

Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is a whole-flow-field technique providing instantaneous velocity vector measurements in a cross-section of a flow. This technique being a non-intrusive one, allows the application of PIV in high speed flows, boundary layer studies of fluids.

MTL’s ISOSPHERES™ range of products are engineered by design to provide operators in the experimental fluid dynamics industry with a high quality seeding material, with both light scattering and fluorescent properties and with true densities engineered around that of water for maximum performance.

Hardware advances associated with the field of flow visualisation have not been matched by the development of a seeding material specifically designed for use in this application. MTL have addressed this limiting factor and developed ISOSPHERES as a dedicated product for this specialist market.

Working with industry experts, MTL have used their extensive expertise in coating hollow glass microspheres to engineer ISOSPHERES as a high quality PIV seeding material.

ISOSPHERES are available in two different forms:

ISOSPHERES-T

Titanium dioxide coated hollow glass microspheres.
Titanium dioxide coating imparts excellent light scattering properties above and beyond that of silver coated microspheres.
Controlled buoyancy ensures particles stay in suspension far longer than any conventionally used seeding materials.
Isospheres are chemically stable
Size range: 5-20 micron.
Density range: 80% between 0.8-1.2 g/cm3
Competitively priced, high quality, alternative to silver coated microspheres.
Custom density profiles available.
ISOSPHERES-R

Fluorescent hollow glass microspheres.
Rhodamine B dye is covalently bound into the microsphere coating so there is no possibility of dye leaching from the microspheres.
Size range: 20-32 micron.
Density range: 80% between 0.9-1.1 g/cm3
Excitation max at 548nm; Emission max at 572nm.
Competitively priced.
Custom density profiles available.
